Blackberry joins the tablet run!

BY THE APPLE GIRL

RIM announced its new tablet PC, called Blackberry Playbook today. The 7-inch Tablet geared at the business folks is called the Playbook (I am not sure when and how play and business would meet in the blackberry world!). The operating system, is based on QNX and if RIM wants to be a player in the tablet market, it better outdo its crappy phone OS Blackberry 6. Playbook comes with a front and back cameras and will initially be available only on Wi-Fi, with the company planning 3G and 4G models in the future.

Here are the specs; Looks like Blackberry has loaded the tablet with anything it could get its hands on. RIM has not yet released the price on this iPad wannabe. What do you think? Does Blackberry have another loser in the market?

  • 7″ LCD, 1024 x 600, WSVGA, capacitive touch screen with full multi-touch and gesture support
  • BlackBerry Tablet OS with support for symmetric multiprocessing
  • 1 GHz dual-core processor
  • 1 GB RAM

Blackberry Playbook, SEXY! Do y’all detect the jealousy in AppleGirl’s voice? The device is just unreal, it’s the first dual-core process and it’s 9.7mm thin!

This is a perfect device for people on the go that travel a lot, Blackberry is notoriously know for business users who hack out their work emails on their phone. Think about this, you’re waiting at the airport and want to check your emails, you can easily check on your Playbook thanks to the device paring. Or you can enjoy the latest episode of your favorite TV show thanks to the Adobe Flash support (craving for Flash yet AppleGirl? ;)) Not to mention, it supports multitasking. I do have to say the “cards” concept sure looks a lot like webOS.

I can’t wait to see a full hands on review on this device. Finally, RIM came up with something that’s a breathe of fresh air, they’re hopefully going to be able to push the Blackberry brand beyond the office feel and give it a “playful” feel.
