T-mobile joins the carrier wars!

Looks like T-mobile wants to join in on the iPhone bashing and carrier war. Check out the new commercial, it’s pretty darn funny!

Hey, what can you say, it is the truth, no 4G for the iPhone right now 🙂

The most popular thing about the T-Mobile 4G ads is not that they have deftly mocked the Mac vs PC ad or that they have poked holes in AT&T’s network, but its the girl in the pink and white dress. For the curious lot, her name is Jessica Pare (from Mad Men Season 4). Unfortunately for T-Mobile, geeks are gawking at the girl more than at the phones.

T-Mobile is desperate for any shot it can get at AT&T and Verizon. Cos 4G or not, T-Mobile knows who’s got the million dollar baby 🙂

Free phones on T-mobile!

Looking for the perfect valentine’s day gift? Well T-Mobile has you covered. They’re offering free phones this Friday and Saturday (Feb 11 &12). Of course, there’s a small catch where you’ll have to sign a 2 year contract.

Not a bad deal, considering you can get the Samsung Vibrant, HTC G2 or myTouch 4G. Of course non Android phones are up for grabs but who’s interested in those right ;)?

LG Optimus 2X duels iPhone 4

iPhone 4 didn’t even stand a chance against the dual core LG Optimus 2X. In a recent browser speed test over WiFi the Optimus 2X slaughtered the iPhone 4. LG Opitmus 2X is the first dual core (Tegra 2) Android phone. It sports a 4 inch display, a 1.3 megapixel front facing camera along with a 8 megapixel camera. It also supports DLNA :), an HDMI output and has the ability to capture 1080p videos.

Not bad right? Check out the video below, it sure makes the iPhone look archaic!

P.S It’s rumored that the Optimus 2X is coming to T-mobile sometime in March (right now it’s only released in Korea). I’m crossing my fingers  on this one!

GoogleChic, the best part of the LG Optimus 2X is the dual core processor. In spite of being a wee bit larger than the iPhone, the LG Optimus 2X screen display cannot beat the iPhone 4’s Retina display.

For me the iPhone clearly wins in the OS and form factor aspect if not in the processor part of it. Apple is rumored to release iPhone 5 with a dual core processor in the summer of this year.

According to an analyst at Rodman and Renshaw, “Apple is on track to refresh the iPad by March and iPhone by late summer. A key component upgrade across these platforms will be a dual-core processor featuring a pair of 1GHz ARM Cortex A9 cores”.  So if you are in the market for a dual core processor, don’t jump the gun just yet!

GoogleChic, you should cross your fingers hoping that Optimus 2X will support HSPA+ (TMobile’s self proclaimed 4G network :))

T-mobile takes a jab at AT&T!

The new T-mobile myTouch 4G commercial is just to funny to pass up. I’ve been saying this ALL along! Who wants to FaceTime on Wifi “from the aiport”. Reality check, you can video chat with the myTouch 4G on T-mobile’s 4G network.  Forget AT&T and the iPhone :)! By the way, Wirefly is offering the phone for only $79.99!

What’s with these mudslinging ads these days? T-Mobile claims 4G speeds on a HSPA+ network, but AT&T calls them out for claiming 4G speeds (according to them, HSPA isn’t really 4G (LTE, WiMaX)).  With the definition of 4G up in the air, what’s funny is that the brawl went down on Facebook. Sprint did not want to be the quiet dog in the room. So Sprint President Matt Carter claimed saying“Halloween is over–it’s time for T-Mobile to stop dressing up like their favorite super hero–Sprint 4G.”

GoogleChic, I hope you noticed the real culprit here. Yes! They are actually fighting over the iPhone and the customer base that it comes with. Not T-Mobile’s MyTouch 4G or Sprint’s Evo 4G 🙂

GoogleChic, doesn’t MyTouch 4G use Qik to make video calls? Here’s your reality check: Qik is available on the iPhone as well. So there you go, iPhone has the seamless, awesome user experience Facetime to use on Wifi and Qik/Fring to use over 3G. If you still have any doubts about the best phone for video calling, you should leave those behind. Because iPhone has the best of both worlds.

T-Mobile’s G2

A new addition to the Android smart phone gang is T-Mobile’s G2. T-Mobile just added this new brick (yeah literally a brick!) into the Android wall. It comes pre-loaded with Android 2.2. If you are one of those “ I am too old fashioned, I can’t use a multi touch display” types, then you will like the hefty keyboard you can pull out on the G2.

The phone doesn’t have AMOLED display like the Samsung Galaxy S, doesn’t have a front facing camera, and not even a 1GHz processor (comes with 800MHz).  Let alone outdoing the iPhone, G2 seems to be struggling to get past the Samsung Galaxy S. Engadget reports users complaining of loose hinges and some G2’s were shipped with only 2GB of memory (half the 4GB of promised storage)!

The only thing that stands out to me is that the G2 comes with HSPA+ support, which can handle upto 14.4Mbps.  Hopefully you live in one of those cities in which T-Mobile supports HSPA to actually make use of the high network speed. GoogleChic, the phone lacks tethering capabilities. Are you just about ready to give T-Mobile a piece of your mind? 🙂

Vodpod videos no longer available.

I would love to say that the G2 superiorly surpasses the G1, but I’m throughly disappointed! The G2 does look 10 times slicker than the G1, but it actually weights more than the G1 which is a shocker (no wonder AppleGirl called it a brick). The G2 weights 6.3 oz (180 g) compared to the G1 at 5.6 oz (158 g). If you compare the G2 to the Samsung Epic 4G it weights a lot more, the Epic weights 4.5 oz only and it has a full QWERTY keyboard. Not to mention the Epic 4G has a 4inch display as compared to the 3.2 on the G2.

Honestly, all you keyboard lovers out there I say you get to practicing on the virtual keyboard. Practice make perfect and you can opt for the upcoming new T-mobile myTouch instead.

The myTouch supports HSPA like the G2 but it also has a front facing camera as well. You can now use Qik with your EVO friends over HSPA 🙂 (yes, you’re not locked down to WiFi, hmm what does that sound like?)

As for T-mobile striping the tethering capabilities on the G2, I’m not too worried about that. There are tethering apps on the Market so just go download one 🙂
