Apple Asia Chronicles

 BY THE APPLE GIRL

Owning an Apple product is a symbol of upward mobility among Asia’s fast growing middle class. In my recent trip to Asia, I noticed a common thing between the west and the east. Crowded Apple Stores. The impact of Apple and its products on the psyche of people all over the world is amazing.

I couldn’t get my hands on a fake iPhone 5 or see a fake Apple store, but got some pictures of Apple references and stores and snagged Apple accessories at record breaking discount prices. My advice for anyone going to China – Shop 🙂

A fake Apple store!

BY THE APPLE GIRLI’m sure you have heard of a fake iPhone, even a fake iPad, but have you heard of a fake Apple Store?!?!

Counterfeit Apple stores have popped up in China, complete with the blue T shirts and Apple name tags. To add to it, the sales people thought that they actually worked for Apple. Recently, as reported by MacRumors,  WSJ got in touch with with one of the sales people, who confirmed that the store is not an authorized retailer but did sell genuine Apple products at the same prices that Apple did.
There’s not just one fake Apple store, there are many! Hilarious!

ROFL! Fake Apple stores selling real Apple products. I guess that shouldn’t shock me because anything can happen in China. Hey, maybe there will be a fake Louis Vuitton store selling real LV purses soon. Thus far they’ve uncovered 5 “fake” Apple stores in Kunming. Two of them have been shut down due to the lack of a proper business license. Surprisingly, the other three are still operational.

Check out the video below. The store looks pretty real to me. My favorite part is that one of the stores has the Apple Store spelled as “Stoer” 🙂

An iPad 2 for a kidney!

BY THE APPLE GIRL

I love my iPad 2 but I wouldn’t trade my kidney for it! A teen, Zheng, from Huaishan City in China wanted an iPad 2, but couldn’t afford it, so he sold his kidney for ~ $3000 to a broker he met online.  Zheng’s mother tried to get in touch with the kidney broker, but as expected he was unreachable. I hope Zheng recovers his health soon and no kid ever attempts to do this again!

iPad’s first ever knockoff, Android iPed

BY THE APPLE GIRL

GoogleChic, Just to refresh your memory, you know that the first Android tablet was a iPad knock off right? (Continuing our copy cat conversation from before)

The iPed started off selling for a cheap $105 in May this year. Since you are so hell bent against Apple, you might like this Android packaged as an iPad. I still can’t tell whether they named it “iPED” or “APAD”. Go figure!

If you didn’t like the iPad knock-off, here’s another option. Android OS on the iPhone. Wouldn’t that be heaven for you? 😀

BY THE GOOGLE CHIC

What a surprise, leave it to the Asians to create a knock off.  But hey, if you launch the iPad in Asia later than U.S they’ve got to make their own right? So while they’re at it, why not have the best of both worlds, Apple hardware and Android OS (because we know that’s the best!)

Looks like you can get the iPed for under $200, but I’m holding out to see what the Samsung Tab will bring to the table.

AppleGirl, as for the Android OS running on the iPhone, NO THANKS! There are so many new awesome phones coming out with sweet hardware! Check out the HTC Desire and Dell Streak. Not to mention Dell Streak is a mini tablet as well 🙂
