Apple hits it out of the park with iOS 4.1!

iOS 4.1 brings some cool iPhone updates to the table.

1. HDR  Photos and HD videos: Apple just raised the photography bar on smart phones with HDR (High Dynamic Range) photos. Shutterbugs, this is another reason for you to snatch up the iPhone 4! I have played around a little bit with it, and I think the iPhone pictures are now super sweet in frames with a lot of light or a lot of shadow. GoogleChic, you are missing out on HDR paired with the Retina display (Yes, I cannot stop raving about the retina display!),  want to borrow my iPhone now? 🙂

2. Game Center: If you think Ping won’t make a big hit, with Game Center Apple’s got another social network on it’s hands. You can invite friends to games and even brag your achievements. The interface is gorgeous and with more games being added every day, I can totally see myself using the iPhone as my primary gaming device.  With iOS as the new gaming platform, Apple has thrown down the gauntlet at Sony and XBOX. Oh and don’t hold your breath waiting for the “Sony PSP phone”! Even if the rumor is true, we all know that the Android interface sucks and is way off from trumping the iOS. Right, GoogleChic? 😉

3. TV Show Rentals: You can now rent TV shows directly on your iPhone. At 99 cents you’ve got 48 hours to watch your TV show without advertisements.   Now, if you get the new Apple TV, you can watch these TV shows directly on your HD TV. Cable networks, it’s time you stop milking us dry with your roof high subscriptions, and get those prices down!

GoogleChic, will GoogleTV bring in a media store to compete with Apple?  Unless they want to be beaten to shreds, Google should just stick to improving its Google Instant search(which apparently a Stanford kid can outdo)!

Apple has also fixed the most popular proximity sensor bug and 3G performance issues in the new update.   iOS 4.1 success ? Check!

With so many new features in 4.1, Apple will keep the media buzzing until November, when iOS 4.2 is to be released. Oooo I can’t wait for Airplay on 4.2! GoogleChic, Apple gives us awesome new features with every update; I’m challenging you to list all the eye-catching features on Android 2.2!

1. HDR Photos – Like I said previously, the HDR photos feature is pretty neat! However, this is just a software feature, I’m sure Google can whip this up in no time. Also, it looks like we already have some HDR options on Android. Camera 360 Pro is able to mimic the HDR feature pretty well, of course it does it without taking multiple exposures but looks pretty good to me.

2. Game Center – Don’t hold your breath on Game Center AppleGirl. It looks like it’s sounding to be a flop just like Ping. PC World called it lifeless! Need I say more? AppleGirl, you’re complaining about the Android interface, but apparently in Game Center the “Find Game Center Games” button just brings you to the Game Center page which is really an advertisement page. Ouch, who’s interface has issues now?

3. TV Shows Rentals – Seriously, you want to pay 99 cents to watch a TV show? I can do that right now without paying a cent, thanks to the Adobe Flash support 🙂 Who cares about a 20 sec commercial, I’m not going to loose sleep over that!

As for GoogleTV, I don’t think you can compare GoogleTV and AppleTV. The two have different concepts, Google TV is about integrating the web with your DVR and your TV. In my opinion, Google will probably not operate a media store since GoogleTV is connected to the web. You can directly go online to get the products you need. Let’s see how this one plays out.

AppleGirl, if you that that the iOS 4.1 features are awesome, does that mean you consider the Froyo 2.2 features mind blowing :)? Here’s all of the eye-catching features that Froyo brought us.

Android 2.2 features iOS 4.1 does not have!

1) Speed – With the Dalvik VM (JIT complier) we noticed improvements in the speed, 2-5X faster with the same hardware! This means less battery consumption as well 🙂

2) Cloud to device messaging – If I was looking up an address for a restaurant on my laptop, I simply have to hit the “Google Chrome to Phone” button and the address will be sent to my phone and it’ll automatically pull up my maps application. This works for webpages as well.

3) Storing apps on the SD card – Wait, iPhone doesn’t have an external storage. So I guess you’ll have to slowly sync all of your settings from iTunes. If I were to switch phones for whatever reasons, all of my apps will be loaded once I pop the SD card into the new phone.

4) Portable Hot spot – I’m able to turn my device into a portable hot spot. AppleGirl, I know you think this is pretty cool, you’ve experienced this first hand 🙂 Remember, how you were able to tether off of my adorable Nexus? Apple Fanboys, don’t hold your breathe on this one, you’re only allow to Facetime over WiFi, I don’t think AT&T will agree to turning the iPhone into a hotspot.

Catch the video below to check out all of the awesome features! I do have to say if this is what 2.2 brings us, I can’t wait for 3.0 (Gingerbread).

Samsung Captivate vs. Apple iPhone 4

Samsung, If you  wanted to beat the iPhone at its game, you should at least trump the iPhone hardware if not the software.  Anyone deciding between Captivate and iPhone 4, here is why you should be buying the iPhone 4 over the Captivate.

1. No front facing camera – This means no FaceTime. I can hear GoogleChic, cribbing about Facetime only available over Wi-Fi. Yes, and I would blame AT&T for that. But its something AT&T can decide to turn on anytime. Video calling is not new, but Apple’s FaceTime is yet to add a new page to it. Soon enough we might all be moving away from audio only calls, and do you want to be left behind without a front facing camera?

2. No camera flash – Captivate gives you a 5 mega pixel camera, but says no to a flash. Is that Samsung being stingy?

3. Crappy AT&T apps – You don’t want to be dealing with all the crapware from AT&T on your phone. I know you can take it off if you don’t want it, but why not get a nice and clean iPhone when you are at it?

4. Retina display and HDR photos –   I am in awe of the iPhone’s Retina display. Check out the video for Epic Citadel below. The super crisp 3Dish images should leave you gawking at the display. Although reviews indicate that Samsung’s AMOLED is comparable to Apple’s Retina display, the superior pixel density of the iPhone is something you should check out for yourself. As Apple says “Retina display’s pixel density is so high, your eye is unable to distinguish the pixels” HDR photos coming on iOS 4.1 is something I would die for. GoogleChic, got anything comparable to HDR photos on Captivate?

5. App-Store – With Apple, you get access to the 250,000 apps at the Apple Store which is more than twice that of the Android market place. GoogleChic, are you going to say that market place apps are growing in number? Do you think the App Store will be stagnant?

6. iPhone texting – At this point, GoogleChic will show you videos where Swype on Captivate  appears faster than iPhone texting. An iPhone texter has already beat the Swype record, but I am not going to use that to get you to buy the iPhone 4. Unless you have countless hours to get your swype -ing skills up to speed, go get the iPhone and text away gloriously (why re-invent the typing wheel right?)

7. iOS – Last but not the least, the Apple’s iOS trumps Android any day with super user friendly intuitive software. You don’t want to get an Android phone and be caught in the dark ages if Sammy decides that you are not fit enough for the software update. With Apple, you get it as soon as it’s released .. simple as that!

Googlechic, I know you are going to point out that it sometimes takes a while to update the iPhone, but hey isn’t that because millions of users are trying to get to it before you do and a few minutes is definitely better than waiting months to get the Android software.

Point to take home: iPhone 4 is any day better than Captivate. 🙂

Samsung can’t help it if AT&T wants to cripple their phone!

1)  Front facing camera. Again, you have AT&T to thank for opting out of the front facing camera option. The Epic 4G, Captivate’s sibling has a front facing camera, so clearly Samsung can provide that feature. Maybe AT&T opted out of it to save itself from another embrassement, another wifi only video time. As for Facetime over 3G, I wouldn’t hold my breathe AppleGirl, you’ll have better luck waiting for the iPhone to come out on Verizon and use Facetime on their stable network. I mean, AT&T is too busy fixing their dropped call right? Millions of customers on their flimsy network would sure cause a blackout 😉 Check out the picture below, I took it while trying to watch Apple’s keynote on a iPhone (umm Networkwork overload)?

2) No flash, pick a side AppleGirl, you said that flash wasn’t a deciding factor. I’m pretty tired of saying this, but yet again AT&T screwing things up. Captivate’s siblings the Epic 4G and Fascinate offers a flash.

3) AT&T apps – Wow, we’re now going to gripe about uninstalling apps? Settings-> Applications -> Manage Applications. That’s it, go uninstall the apps to your heart’s content!

4) Retina display? Oh vey! You need to check out the Super AMOLED in person, check out Avatar on the Samsung (just for you AppleGirl, check out Avatar on the Samsung vs. iPhone 4).  That sure beats your Citadel! As for HDR photos, you realize that’s just a software upgrade right? Being able to snap 3 pictures and put it together is surely something that Google can do.

5) Market, the Android phones can do anything an iPhone can do, even better! Oh don’t forget it’s probably free also!

6) Texting, don’t be jealous AppleGirl that you can’t get Swype. The Captivate does have an on screen keyboard just like the iPhone. Swype is just a bonus feature. If you can type quickly on an iPhone you sure can do it on the Captivate.

7) OS – The iOS trumps Android anyday? I guess if you’re boring and don’t want to be able to customize your desktop or anything else then yes, iOS is for you. You can have the same old app drawer like the millions of iPhone users out there! Now, if you want notifications, customizable desktops, widgets in which you can view FB status, tweet right from your desktop then Android is for you!

By the way, remember Android is open source, update at will. No need to “wait” for the update, it’s already out there. Thanks to Cyanogen (along with other devs) you can get enhanced features for your OS. It’s also easy, just follow the instructions. Now, if you have a Nexus that’s a bonus, Google pushes the updates directly and it takes 2 mins versus the pain of having to fight a million other users trying to get the same upgrade. If Apple was smarter, they would phase the upgrade over the span of several days instead of crashing their servers.

Point taken? Pick an Android device over the iPhone 4. The Captivate is the best Android that AT&T has to offer but there are much better Android devices out there. Stop staying with the crap network that will only promote the iPhone.

iOS 4.2 … Let’s get the party started!

BY THE APPLE GIRLThis is Apple making Google work harder!

iOS 4.2 brings  iPad up to date with the iPhone and iPod touch software. Now that you used your iPad to create documents, you can also use it to print them wirelessly on iOS4.2.

The most exciting feature for me is Airplay. Airplay lets you play media from your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch to anywhere in your house – wirelessly!

You can now stream your music over Wi-Fi to Apple TV and Airport Express. I can hear some groaners already! Don’t own an Airport express or Apple TV? No problem! Apple brings music streaming to some big third party audio makers including Denon,  Marantz, Bowers & Wilkins, JBL and iHome. I’m loving it. GoogleChic, should I advice you to buy an iPhone before you throw your holiday party? I am sure you don’t want to be fumbling the playlist on your computer after a few drinks!

Now for some bad news! You can’t get your hands on these updates until November. While we are talking about music, have you tried Ping yet? Ping has topped more than a million users in less than 48 hours. GoogleChic, let’s talk about Google’s Buzz success  vs. Ping’s? 😉  Ouch, do we only see Buzz’s 8.5 million dollar privacy suit dent?

BY THE GOOGLE CHICGoogle is already hard at work with Gingerbread; Android 3.0.

Mum is the word when it comes to Gingerbread, but supposedly it’s a overhaul of the UI and you would need to meet the minimum hardware requirements to run it (1 GHz processor, 512 MB RAM 3.5 inch display). I wonder what Google has in store for us but I have a feeling that it’ll surpass Apple’s iOS 4.2.

As for Bing, opps! I mean Ping, it looks like it’s a big DUD. There are a million users because every Tom, Dick and Harry went and got an account. However, it sounds like a lot of people are frustrated that it’s hard to find your friends and can only display songs you like if you’ve purchased it in iTunes.

P.S AppleGirl, after a few drinks I don’t think it matters what playlist you’re looking at. Whether it’s on the computer or your iPhone, it should all look pretty confusing by then 🙂

Apple got news! iOS4.1, iPod Shuffle, Touch, Nano, Apple TV, Ping ..Pheew!

Round up of the iNews from today’s Apple event.

1. iOS 4.1 includes HDR photos and Game Center

Sony, if you thought Apple was stealing your PSP customers, you better watch out now. You probably need a better ad to diss Apple (and a better phone too!).  iOS4.1 also includes the proximity sensor and the much complained about iPhone 3g fixes. iPhone 3g whiners, here you go.. Steve got these just for you!

2. New iPod Shuffle brings back buttons, that we all know and love and playlists. In hot new colors, you should spot people sporting them at your gyms pretty soon!

3. New multitouch iPod nano with a 24 hour battery life. Talking about nano devices .. Isn’t this the most amazing smallest multitouch device to own?

4. New super sleek iPod Touch with retina display and front facing camera. GoogleChic, I know you secretly want the new iPod touch. Wanna facetime? 😉

5. iTunes 10 with Ping Social Network – Eric Schmidt, now don’t be a cry baby and say  that you weren’t warned about the new iTunes 10!

6. New Apple TV – Isn’t it as cute as a button? And its only $99! Stream rental movies ($4.99) and TV shows ($0.99), Netflix, Flickr  or videos from your computer! Apple’s got a lucrative gadget hobby going on here!

Chris Martin from Cold play gave a closing performance to wrap up the event. Google, got anything other than geeky demos at your events? And GoogleChic, don’t even get started on Google’s innovation and zero marketing skills! We all know you got nothing! 😉 (Well nothing  except Google search! Wake up from your la la land Android dream!)

AppleGirl, here’s what I think about your roundup

1. iOS 4.1  – The HDR photo feature is pretty cool, I do want to check this out. Other than that, nothing major really stands out for me (sorry am not a gamer, so I’m not all gitty about the Game Center). Overall, it looks like minor feature updates and bug fixes. Nothing too life changing. Let’s see what iOS 4.2 will bring. Watch out Apple, Android 3.0 (Gingerbread) is in the works, do you think you can beat that?

2. Haven’t really ever been a big fan of the shuffle, why not just spring for the nano?

3. Okay, I do have to say that the nano’s touch screen is pretty cool. However, the screen is too small to really do much with it.

4. AppleGirl, I wouldn’t want to be stuck at home just so I can facetime with you since it requires wifi. Oh wait, the iPhone requires wifi too! I’m just saying, EVO video calling over 4G sounds a little bit more versatile to me 😉

5. Ping, sounds like Apple is using the Bing search engine to recommend songs 🙂

6. Apple TV, let me pay $99 so I can spend more money to stream videos that I have to rent! Yes it’s a small device, but are you going to travel with it? Stream from your laptop ppl!

At the end of the day the geeks will be geeks, we appreciate our device for what it is. We don’t need Coldplay to show up just to buy a device 😉
