Apps for the hungry!

With the growing popularity of location based services (Facebook, FourSquare, GoWalla), Yahoo doesn’t want to be left behind. It is launching Yahoo Local Offers which gets you the best local deals and savings in your area.

One of the new Yahoo features I like is the Sketch-A-Search iPhone App which brings a very unique approach to search nearby restaurants.  Pull up a map and sketch a circle (or any shape you want to indicate the area in which to search for restaurants) and the app shows you all the restaurants in that area and lets you filter with a specific cuisine. Not just that, Yahoo has partnered with Zagat and Open Table so you can get restaurant reviews and book a table all through the same free app. For those of you with an iPad, no need to fret! Yahoo has now released the App optimized to the large screen display.

But if you own an Android, you might have to look for other options! GoogleChic, anything interesting?
Vodpod videos no longer available.

Yahoo who?  They may not want to be left behind, but the Sketch-A-Search app maybe too little too late.

I think it’s a different concept. However, instead of drawing a circle around the area you’re in, why not just have your GPS detect that and pull up nearby restaurants?

Just to name a few, Yelp and Google Places are apps that can detect your location using GPS and provide you with nearby restaurants, it can also provide you with the reviews as well. It’s also able to provide you with places such as bars, hotels, gas stations etc.

So AppleGirl, you can use the Sketch-A-Search app to your heart’s content. I’m the lazy type, would rather have my GPS do the work for me 😉
