Android too geeky for pretty girls?

Are Androids too geeky for pretty girls? According to Frank Meehan, CEO of INQ, it is! “If you go to a nightclub in any city in the world, the pretty girl has an iPhone or a BlackBerry. She doesn’t have an Android phone. She has no emotional attachment to an Android phone. It’s too complicated. It’s a geek device, it’s all wrong.”

This is coming from the CEO of a company that is releasing the Cloud Touch, an Android based phone which promotes social networking in particular Facebook. The last time I checked it was all the pretty girls posting their night out on town pictures on Facebook. Looks like they won’t be buying INQ’s phone to do that 🙂

With that said, I do think Android in the beginning was for early adopters  (geeks according to Meehan) but it has evolved very well over the last year and has become mainstream.  Hey there are pretty geeks out there right 😉

P.S Maybe Meehan should think about redesigning the Cloud Touch, it’s not the “prettiest” Android device!

Its funny that his comment has caused quite an outrage among geek girls. And calling INQ’s potential female market as geeky or not pretty is not going to be good for Meehan’s business. The rest of his comment, however, is much more interesting.

He says “Android manufacturers are all just focused utterly on the tech, because they’re all hardware guys. They don’t get software. They’ve tried to outdo Apple with hardware, but the problem is the customer doesn’t care,”

He also said “Every time CES and MWC come around, they’re all sitting there slapping each other on the back. Then out comes the iPad, and people are like, ‘Oh sh*t, we got to redo our product roadmap.’ Half the stuff disappears off the roadmap like that.” The iPad 2 and iPhone 5 will have the same effect, he predicts.

Mr. Meehan, stereotyping is not the way to go, but you seem to have understood what’s wrong with the Android ecosystem. That is a good start 🙂
