Just for kicks – Who is Obama’s favorite techie?

Check out this picture from Obama’s dinner with the tech titans! He is flanked by the techie darling Zuckerberg and Steve Jobs! 🙂

Do you see Eric Shmidt at the far end of the table? Just saying 😉

President Obama this week announced, in his weekly address that education is the key in the creation of the “next Intel, next Google or next Microsoft”.

“That’s how we’ll ensure that the next Intel, the next Google, or the next Microsoft is created in America, and hires American workers.”

There’s no mention of Apple, hey I’m just saying 😉

Google instant search

Today, Google announced it’s newest feature, Google instant. Essentially,  Google will now search for the results as you type, it’s able to instantly return results even before you hit enter! I have to say I found this to be pretty cool, type “a” and Amazon automatically pops up in the search below.  This feature will be availbe later this fall on mobile devices.

Check out the video to see for yourself (I’m sure AppleGirl is going to call this a boring geeky google video :P)

P.S AppleGirl, Safari is a supported browser for Google instant. Like how Google doesn’t leave anyone behind 🙂

GoogleChic, I have to say that Instant Search is impressive and also very scary, predicting results as you type each letter. Should I remind you of the GoogleToilet that is draining all your personal info? With Google Instant, they might even be able to predict what you want to have for lunch today!

Don’t get too excited though! Google might be serving you some heated leftovers. A product manager at Yahoo claims that an interactive  search engine like Google Instant has already been rolled out by Yahoo in 2005! Hmm, does this mean Google copied Yahoo? GoogleChic, doesn’t that sound familiar? 🙂 It does make me wonder if Instant is another Google hype  over nothing.

If you think Google Instant is cool, check this out. Feross Aboukhadijeh, a CS major at Stanford, wagered with a friend that he could replicate Google Instant model with You Tube in an hour. Although he did it in 3 hours and lost the bet, his You Tube instant puts Google Instant to shame. Ofcourse, You Tube CEO, Chad Hurley offered him a job at You Tube over twitter! I see the makings of another Mark Zuckerberg (Facebook CEO) in Feross!

Apple faux pas- Ping and Photoshop

Apple seems to be having a couple of hiccups lately. It looks like Steve Job is off doing his own thing again. What a surprise right? Ping, Apple’s new social network which debuted last week utilized Facebook’s friend finding API without signing an agreement. Facebook requires that a company sign an agreement with them when the API is heavily utilized. Well, it turns out that Apple and Facebook did not reach an agreement but Apple decided to use it anyways. What happens next is pretty comical, Facebook decided to shut Apple down, leaving them to scurry around to remove all of it’s Facebook integration from Ping.  Combine this with other complains that have been voiced I would say Apple has a flop on their hands.

Not to mention, Apple apparently doesn’t know the concept of proofing. The 4th generation iPod touch sure looked like the iPhone in its promo pictures. Did you know that you could make phone calls on the new iPod touch? NOT! Check out the promo picture below, not only does it have a dialer it also supports messaging as well!

Apple are you red in the face yet?

If you ask me, Mark Zuckerberg would have been more than thrilled to collect all the cash from the new 160 million Ping user traffic. He was probably more scared that Ping users would crumble the Facebook servers. Check out the Ping screen shot below. You think one of them might be the real Zucky, looking for new ideas to integrate into Facebook?

While we are talking about Ping, I think its pretty cool that Ping is integrated on the iPhone/iPod touch as part of the iTunes app. GoogleChic, I just sent you an invite! Don’t fret, you can still access Ping on your computer. 🙂

Now are we picking up random pictures and pointing out Photoshop errors? Ouch, you touched a raw Apple-Adobe nerve with Photoshop. Steve Jobs might be really red in the face about that!
