Epic Steve Jobs’ rant!

BY THE APPLE GIRL Unless you have been living under the rock for the past couple of days, you should have heard of Steve Jobs’ comments at Apple’s 2010 last quarter earnings call. A $20 billion cash rush prompted Steve to stop by and talk about his competitor’s products. Apple surpassed RIM in smart phone activations and as Steve pointed out, RIM better move its lazy bottom and get to work on turning into a good software company. If you  compare the iPhone to a Blackberry, you will know what Steve was talking about! Steve Jobs addressed the 7 inch tablet which he referred to as, wait for it .. “DOA -Dead On Arrival”. I’m glad he took the high road and kicked the 7 inch tablet in the gut, and I totally agree with Steve that the 7 inch tablet is just a tweener – too big to compete with a smart phone and too small to compete with the iPad. RIM Co-CEO Jim Balsillie responded to Jobs saying that 7 inch tablets will be a big portion of the market (a market they haven’t seen much of) and used the “Flash” card to claim they have something that Apple doesn’t. Don’t we all know that’s the card competitors use when they have nothing to show off? GoogleChic, sound familiar 🙂 Android’s claim on open being better than closed seems to have touched a raw nerve on Steve. According to Jobs, Android is a highly fractured, fragmented confusing array of products with varying features and sizes. GoogleChic, this is what you love to call the Android ecosystem.  A software which Google says is not ready for Tablets, but manufacturers go ahead and use it anyway, a platform on which developers have to create multiple versions of their Apps to cater to so many sizes and configurations, and a bevy of carriers who want to jump on the phone with their own customizations or lockdowns. It sounds more like a mess, than the beautiful eco-system  picture that GoogleChic had painted for us. Last but not the least Andy Rubin, the creator of Android responded to Jobs with a twitter message. Is Schmidt hiding under his table, that he had to send his clever Android developer to write a string of shell commands on Twitter as Android’s response to Apple 🙂 “mkdir android ; cd android ; repo init -u git://android.git.kernel.org/platform/manifest.git ; repo sync ; make” GoogleChic, you should translate this for our readers, since you seem to understand Android’s unnecessary complicated language 🙂 After all, conveying  a concise, comprehend-able message is as hard as building an integrated, easy to use device. Right?

BY THE GOOGLE CHIC What a suprise, Steve Jobs is yet again alienating the world. Steve Jobs should be coined as the Apple bubble boy, to him everything outside of the bubble is flawed. If Apple was doing so well, why would they need their CEO to go on a rant to point out everyone’s so called “flaws”  in a earnings call. Isn’t that the time to let your stockholders know how well your company is doing? I guess when you’re so insecure about yourself you have to  snoop to that level. Technically, Apple surpassed RIM in phone activations, but if you look closely at the facts, according to the Niels reported Apple didn’t surpass RIM until June of this year when the iPhone 4 was released. What’s also interesting is that RIM’s quarter ended in August compared to Apple’s ending in September. Are we really comparing apples to apples (no pun intended) or is Jobs being a drama queen yet again? With that said, of course I have to point out that Android clearly rains supreme in this category 🙂 If Android was so fragmented, why are the so many people interested in it? Hello world, earth to Steve, maybe there are actually options out there, a choice for everyone instead of one phone, one OS (technically two, the latest and the predecessor right?) 😉 There’s “integrated vs fragmented”, looks like people are choosing the so called “fragmented” cause it’s not a once size fits all world! As for the 7 inch tablet comment that Jobs made, RIM’s co-CEO Jim Balsillie nicely puts it into context. “For those of us who live outside of Apple’s distortion field, we know that 7-inch tablets will actually be a big portion of the market and we know that Adobe Flash support actually matters to customers who want a real web experience.” , “We think many customers are getting tired of being told what to think by Apple”. Another comical topic which probably has Jobs red in the face is  that he referred to  TweetDeck as TwitterDeck (LOL I guess Jobs is still confused about the whole tweet versus twitter terminology). He used TweetDeck to illustrate what he perceives as fragmentation with Android. Looks like you hit a nerve yet again, TweetDeck’s CEO Iaian Dodsworth came back with this comment. “we only have 2 guys developing on Android TweetDeck so that shows how small an issue fragmentation is.” As for you AppleGirl, I’ll create you an AppleGirl custom rom this weekend “mkdir android ; cd android ; repo init -u git://android.git.kernel.org/platform/manifest.git ; repo sync ; make” P.S On a side note, I think RIM and Samsung should send over some sandpaper to Jobs so he can use it as toilet paper! (Jobs made a comment on the call that for people to use 7-inch tablets they would need to sandpaper their fingers :P)
